Rangamati, Nov 25 (V7N) – The Anti-Quota Unity Alliance enforced a shutdown in Rangamati on Monday, demanding the cancellation of the quota system in the primary teacher recruitment process and the immediate announcement of the recruitment exam date within November. From early morning, protesters, including alliance leaders and job seekers, gathered at the main entrance of the Rangamati Hill District Council office, blocking entry and bringing regular operations to a standstill.
Protesters alleged that despite repeatedly submitting memorandums, forming human chains, holding meetings, collecting mass signatures, and observing strikes, the district council has yet to issue any clear announcement regarding the exam schedule. They claimed that the authority has been postponing the exam repeatedly to “cover up allegations of irregularities and a lack of transparency.”
According to the demonstrators, multiple appeals and peaceful programs have produced no results. They expressed frustration, saying the district council appears unwilling to make a decision, as if influenced by “an invisible force.” They added that even direct queries about the exam date have gone unanswered.
The Anti-Quota Unity Alliance stated that while primary teacher recruitment exams are progressing smoothly in other districts, the process in Rangamati is being unnecessarily delayed, leaving hundreds of candidates uncertain about their future.
Alliance leaders said their six-point demand, including the elimination of quota preference and ensuring fairness in recruitment, must be fulfilled without delay. They warned that failure to announce the exam date soon would force them to escalate their movement.
Due to the shutdown, essential services at the district council have been severely disrupted, with document processing, inter-departmental services, and daily administrative activities largely halted, according to concerned officials.
