Rangamati, Mar 7 (V7N) - The Bangladesh Army has uncovered a secret militant base of the United Peoples Democratic Front (UPDF) in the Kaukhali Upazila of Rangamati district. During a recent operation, the Army seized a large quantity of weapons, ammunition, and various equipment from the hideout.

The operation took place on Friday morning. Later that afternoon, Lieutenant Colonel Muhammad Junayed Uddin Shah Chowdhury, Commander of the Rangamati Sadar Zone, briefed the press at the Sadar Zone office. Additional Police Superintendent of Rangamati Sadar Circle, Md. Mahmud Khan, was also present.

During the operation, the Army recovered a pistol, 17 rounds of ammunition, a binocular, several walkie-talkie sets, a hard disk, uniforms, receipts for extortion, revolutionary red books, and other materials from the hideout. However, no arrests were made during the operation.

Lieutenant Colonel Shah Chowdhury mentioned that the operation was carried out based on intelligence reports early in the morning in the Kaukhali area. Upon noticing the Army's presence, militants fled the scene, but their equipment was seized. During the operation, UPDF attempted to disrupt the mission by organizing a protest with a small group of indigenous women.

The Army has stated that operations against armed militants who threaten peace and the sovereignty of the region will continue.

The Rangamati Sadar Circle’s Additional Police Superintendent, Md. Mahmud Khan, confirmed that a case is underway at the Kaukhali Police Station regarding this incident.
