Dhaka, Mar 26 (V7N) – Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Professor Mia Golam Parwar has stated that the Jamaat party will only support elections after the visible trial of mass murderers involved in the July-August movement and after the necessary reforms have been carried out.
Speaking at a discussion meeting organized by Dhaka Metropolitan South Jamaat-e-Islami in Purana Paltan on Wednesday afternoon, Mia Golam Parwar emphasized the need to create an environment conducive to free, fair, and impartial elections. He warned that if this was not achieved, the elections would merely replicate previous controversial elections.
"Elections should only take place once the environment ensures fairness and justice. Otherwise, we will see the same controversial elections as before," Parwar remarked.
The Jamaat leader also called on all political parties to join forces with the government in ensuring the proper framework for conducting elections. He expressed concern that without such collaboration, the country might face divisive politics.
Professor Parwar also addressed the ongoing anti-fascist movement, stating that some of its participants were adopting fascist-like rhetoric, similar to that of the Awami League. He criticized how Jamaat was being misrepresented as controversial by those in power, and highlighted the political divide being cultivated by the ruling party:
"Some who participated in the anti-fascist movement now speak like Awami Fascism. If Jamaat stands with them, they are allies; if not, they are labeled militants."
The Jamaat Secretary General further urged unity among the anti-fascist political parties, stressing that the nation should not be divided over settled issues. His call for political unity in these turbulent times reflects his party's desire to foster cooperation rather than division in the lead-up to the next elections.
The statements from Mia Golam Parwar underscore Jamaat’s strategic position on electoral reforms and political unity, as the nation gears up for an uncertain political future.
