Dhaka, May 03 (V7N) – Hasnat Abdullah, chief organizer of the southern region of the National Citizens Party (NCP), has demanded an immediate ban on the Awami League, labeling it as an autocratic and terrorist organization. He made the remarks while addressing a mass gathering of Hefazat-e-Islam at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital on Saturday (May 3).

“There is no ‘if’, ‘but’, or ‘or’ in banning the Awami League. The party must be banned immediately. That will be the biggest reform in this country,” Hasnat stated in his speech, drawing strong reactions from the crowd.

He further declared, “Awami League has died in Bangladesh, and its funeral was held in Delhi. This party will not return to power by stepping over the blood of martyrs like Abrar Fahad and Shaheed Alif.”

Accusing the ruling party of historic and systemic oppression, the NCP leader said, “The Awami League is not a political party. After 1971, Sheikh Mujib strangled democracy through Baksal, and 1.5 million people died in the 1974 famine due to their looting. They are nothing but a terrorist outfit.”

Targeting Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Hasnat said, “Our movement will continue until Sheikh Hasina is brought to justice.”

On the issue of the Women’s Rights Reform Commission, he directly addressed Dr. Muhammad Yunus, head of the interim government, saying: “Ignore the unnecessary reforms and implement the ones that preserve the religious dignity of women. Reforms must align with our social and religious values.”

The event was part of a grand rally organized by Hefazat-e-Islam, which has issued four key demands including the cancellation of the Women’s Affairs Reform Commission report, and the trial of all alleged genocides during the Awami League regime, including the Shapla Square incident of 2013.
