Dhaka, Sep 05 (V7N) – Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has criticized the tendency of Bangladeshi politicians to rush abroad for medical treatment, saying it undermines public trust in the country’s healthcare system.

He made the remarks while attending a free medical camp organized at Manipur School and College grounds in Ibrahimpur, Dhaka, on Friday morning.

“Ordinary people of this country, who cannot afford to go abroad, depend on our medical system. How can I seek treatment abroad when the common people cannot?” Dr. Shafiqur Rahman asked.

The Jamaat chief said he has always had confidence in local healthcare. “To restore people’s trust in our medical system, I have decided to undergo treatment in Bangladesh, putting my faith in Allah,” he added.

Addressing leaders and activists of political parties, he said:
“They speak of building a Sonar Bangla (Golden Bengal), but whenever something happens, they rush overseas. If politicians received treatment at home, the deficiencies in our medical system would have been fixed.”

Dr. Rahman further pledged that Jamaat MPs elected in the next election would not accept tax-free cars or government plots at subsidized rates.

He also called on citizens to take the “right decision for the future of a fearless, humane, independent, and sovereign Bangladesh.”
