Dhaka, Dec 25 (V7N) – Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman is on his way back to Bangladesh from London after 17 years in exile. The Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight carrying him left Heathrow Airport at 12:15 am Bangladesh time on Wednesday. He is travelling with his wife Dr Zubaida Rahman and their daughter Zaima Rahman.
The flight is scheduled to land at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 11:55 am on Thursday. BNP sources have shared details of his three-day schedule following his return.
On Wednesday afternoon, BNP leader Salahuddin Ahmed held a press conference at the party’s chairman’s political office in Gulshan to outline Tarique Rahman’s upcoming programs.
According to Salahuddin Ahmed, senior party leaders will welcome Tarique Rahman at the airport around noon on Thursday. He will then proceed to the July Expressway, also known as the 300-Foot Road, where he will address waiting party supporters and express his gratitude to the nation. Following this, he will visit BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia at Evercare Hospital before heading to his residence in Gulshan-2 via Kakoli Mor. No other programs are scheduled for that day.
On Friday, December 26, after Jumu’ah prayers, Tarique Rahman will first visit the grave of Ziaur Rahman in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka, followed by a visit to the National Memorial in Savar to pay tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War.
On Saturday, December 27, two programs are planned. Tarique Rahman will attend to matters related to his national identity card, though details of whether he will visit the Election Commission office in Agargaon will be confirmed later. He will complete all necessary procedures to become a registered voter. Later, he will visit the grave of martyr Osman Hadi at Dhaka University campus.
After paying respects at Osman Hadi’s grave, Tarique Rahman will visit Pangu Hospital in Shyamoli to see individuals injured during the July public uprising. Additional programs for the day will be announced later, Salahuddin Ahmed added.
This return marks a significant political event in Bangladesh, drawing widespread attention from party members, supporters, and the general public.
