Dhaka, Dec 24 (V7N)- Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Secretary General Redwan Ahmed has returned to the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) after a long absence and will contest the upcoming 13th National Parliament election from the Comilla-7 constituency with the party’s electoral symbol, the sheaf of rice.

Redwan Ahmed was one of the key figures in forming the LDP after leaving the BNP earlier. His return marks a significant political development within the opposition camp.

At the same time, Nationalist Democratic Movement (NDM) Chairman Bobby Hajjaj will contest the election from Dhaka-13 constituency under the BNP symbol. Though no formal announcement has been made yet, political circles believe this move signals the effective dissolution of NDM.

Following a similar path, National People’s Party (NPP) Chairman Fariduzzaman Farhad is also set to join the BNP and contest from the Narail-2 constituency.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir officially confirmed the joining of these three leaders at a press conference held at the BNP Chairperson’s Office in Gulshan on Thursday.

Earlier, Bangladesh Liberal Democratic Party (BLDP) Chairman Shahadat Hossain Selim dissolved his party and joined the BNP. Advocate Syed Ehsanul Huda, chairman of the Bangladesh National Party and a partner in the simultaneous movement, also joined BNP in the same manner.

Party sources say that two more political parties are expected to dissolve soon, with their leaders preparing to join the BNP.

Meanwhile, following extensive discussions with parties involved in the simultaneous movement, the BNP has finalized electoral seat-sharing agreements in at least eight constituencies. These include:

  • Pirojpur-1: Mostafa Jamal Haider (Jatiya Party-Jafar)

  • Jessore-5: Mufti Rashid Bin Wakkas (Islami Oikya Jote)

  • Dhaka-12: Saiful Haque (Revolutionary Workers Party)

  • Bogra-2: Mahmudur Rahman Manna (Nagorik Oikya)

  • Patuakhali-3: Nurul Haque Nur (Ganaodhikar Parishad)

  • Jhenaidah-4: Rashed Khan (Ganaodhikar Parishad)

  • Brahmanbaria-6: Jonayed Saki (Mass Movement)

  • Dhaka-17: Barrister Andalib Rahman Partha (Bangladesh Jatiya Party)

Regarding the LDP, party chairman Col. (Retd.) Oli Ahmed has chosen to contest the election independently under his party symbol, declining an electoral agreement with the BNP. However, several LDP presidium members reportedly disagree with this decision, and Secretary General Redwan Ahmed’s move to BNP has highlighted internal divisions.

Additionally, the BNP announced earlier this week that it has reached an agreement with Jamiat Ulema-e-Bangladesh on four constituencies:

  • Sylhet-5: Ubaydullah Faruk

  • Nilphamari-1: Manjurul Islam Afendi

  • Brahmanbaria-2: Junayed Al Habib

  • Narayanganj-4: Monir Hossain Qasemi

These developments indicate a significant consolidation of opposition forces around the BNP ahead of the national election.
