Tom Brady will not face any discipline from the NFL after his comments on officiating during Fox's broadcast of the Green Bay Packers vs. Detroit Lions game. Brady, now a Fox Sports analyst and part-owner of the Las Vegas Raiders, criticized the ejection of Detroit safety Brian Branch for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Green Bay’s Bo Melton. Brady remarked, “I don’t love that (ejection) call at all,” suggesting that such penalties should require "serious intent."
Due to Brady's partial ownership of the Raiders, the NFL had previously set boundaries on what he could discuss publicly, specifically prohibiting criticism of officiating and other teams. However, NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy explained that Brady’s remarks were not considered severe enough to warrant consequences, noting, "The concern would be if Tom was egregiously critical of officiating or called into question the integrity of an official or the crew."
Brady’s dual role as a Raiders owner and broadcaster had raised concerns among NFL owners about potential conflicts of interest, leading to restrictions on his commentary about officials. The NFL’s decision not to penalize him reflects the mild nature of his critique, sidestepping any major issues in this instance.
