Madrid, Mar 11 (V7N) – Atletico Madrid delivered a stunning performance at home, defeating Tottenham Hotspur 5-2 in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16.
Diego Simeone’s side took control from the start, scoring three goals within the first 15 minutes, leaving Tottenham struggling to respond despite making a goalkeeper change.
Normand extended the lead to 4-0 in the 22nd minute, but Tottenham’s Poro pulled one back just four minutes later. After halftime, Julian Alvarez scored his second goal of the match to restore Atletico’s commanding lead. Spurs’ Solanke added a late goal, but Tottenham left the pitch with a heavy 5-2 defeat.
The result gives Atletico a strong advantage heading into the second leg, putting Tottenham under immense pressure to overturn the deficit.
