Washington, May 08 (V7N) — Donald Trump has expressed concern and disappointment over the soaring ticket prices for the opening matches of the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup.

In an interview with the New York Post on Thursday (May 8), Trump said it would be “very disappointing” if fans had to spend around $1,000 just to attend an opening World Cup match.

The US president said ordinary supporters from areas like Queens and Brooklyn — many of whom voted for him — could be deprived of enjoying matches from the stadium because of unaffordable ticket prices.

Trump warned that ticket prices are moving beyond the reach of regular football fans.

According to reports, ticket prices for the 2026 tournament have risen sharply compared to the previous World Cup hosted in Qatar in 2022. During the Qatar World Cup, the most expensive final ticket was priced at around $1,600, while some premium tickets for the 2026 final are reportedly reaching nearly $11,000.

Despite criticism, Gianni Infantino defended the pricing policy, saying the surge reflects unprecedented demand.

Infantino stated that ticket demand for the upcoming tournament has increased nearly tenfold compared to the previous World Cup, adding that prices have been determined according to market demand.
