Toronto, May 10 (V7N)- Argentine superstar Lionel Messi scored one goal and provided two assists as Inter Miami CF secured an impressive 4-2 victory over Toronto FC in Major League Soccer (MLS).
The match was held at BMO Field on Saturday night.
With his outstanding performance, Messi achieved another remarkable milestone by becoming the fastest player in MLS history to contribute to 100 goals in the regular season. The Argentine forward reached the landmark in just 64 matches, scoring 59 goals and registering 41 assists.
After suffering a dramatic 4-3 defeat against Orlando City SC in the previous round despite leading 3-0, Inter Miami made a strong comeback with this victory.
Miami took the lead in the 44th minute through Rodrigo De Paul, ending the first half ahead 1-0.
Uruguayan striker Luis Suárez doubled the lead in the 56th minute from Messi’s assist. Substitute Sergio Reguilon added the third goal in the 72nd minute, again from Messi’s setup.
Messi then sealed his brilliant performance by scoring Miami’s fourth goal in the 75th minute with a stunning finish.
Toronto FC attempted a late comeback by scoring twice in the 82nd and 90th minutes, creating tension in the closing stages of the match. The hosts continued to press during added time but failed to break through Miami’s defense again.
The victory helped Inter Miami return to winning ways in the MLS campaign.
