Barcelona, May 11 (V7N)- FC Barcelona have been crowned champions of the 2025-26 La Liga season after defeating arch-rivals Real Madrid 2-0 in a decisive El Clasico clash at Camp Nou on Sunday.
Needing only a win or a draw to secure the league crown, Barcelona delivered a dominant performance in front of their home supporters to lift their 29th La Liga title.
Under coach Hansi Flick, the Catalan side controlled the match from the opening whistle. Barcelona enjoyed 57 percent possession and registered 10 shots, seven of which were on target. Real Madrid, in contrast, managed only eight shots throughout the game, with just one on target.
English forward Marcus Rashford opened the scoring in the 9th minute with a stunning free-kick goal. Just nine minutes later, Ferran Torres doubled Barcelona’s lead, heading home after a brilliant back-flick assist from Dani Olmo.
Barcelona carried the 2-0 advantage into halftime and successfully defended their lead throughout the second half despite Real Madrid’s attempts to fight back.
With the victory, Barcelona moved to 91 points after 35 matches, recording 30 wins and one draw. Real Madrid remain second with 77 points from 24 wins and five draws.
Despite Barcelona’s latest triumph, Real Madrid still lead the all-time La Liga title count with 36 championships. However, Barcelona have narrowed the overall trophy gap between the two clubs, with Real Madrid holding 105 titles across all competitions compared to Barcelona’s 104.
The latest victory also leveled the historic El Clasico rivalry, with both clubs now recording 106 wins each against one another.
Villarreal CF and Atlético Madrid currently occupy third and fourth positions in the league table respectively.
