Florida, May 18 (V7N) — Inter Miami CF secured a 2-0 victory over Portland Timbers in Major League Soccer (MLS), with Argentine superstar Lionel Messi contributing both a goal and an assist.

The match, played early Monday Bangladesh time at Inter Miami’s home ground, marked the Florida club’s first home victory in four matches.

Inter Miami opened the scoring in the 31st minute when Messi found the net with a precise left-footed finish after receiving a pass created from Segovia’s extended ball. The Argentine captain continued his impressive performance shortly before halftime by setting up Germán Berterame for Miami’s second goal.

Messi nearly added another goal before the break, but Portland goalkeeper James Pantemis denied him with a crucial save from a free kick. Miami entered halftime with a comfortable 2-0 lead.

Portland Timbers attempted to stage a comeback in the second half, creating several attacking opportunities. However, Miami’s defense remained solid, preventing the visitors from reducing the deficit.

Inter Miami also missed a few additional chances but ultimately held onto their first-half advantage to secure all three points.

The victory comes ahead of Miami’s final MLS match before the upcoming FIFA World Cup preparations. The Florida-based club is scheduled to face Philadelphia Union on May 25.

Following that match, Lionel Messi and Rodrigo De Paul are expected to join the Argentina national team camp ahead of the World Cup.
