ROME, July 25 (V7N)— The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) has reached a four-year agreement to appoint former Italy midfielder Andrea Pirlo as head coach of the national team, according to reports from Italian daily La Repubblica cited by Reuters.
Pirlo, widely regarded as one of the greatest midfielders in football history, won the World Cup with Italy in 2006. His distinguished club playing career included stints at Inter Milan, AC Milan, and Juventus.
The 47-year-old is currently managing Dubai United in the UAE First Division League. He previously served as head coach of Juventus during the 2020–21 season, leading the club to victories in both the Coppa Italia and the Italian Super Cup.
Prior to settling on Pirlo, the FIGC had approached Pep Guardiola and Carlo Ancelotti. However, with Ancelotti under contract with Brazil through the 2030 World Cup and Guardiola's salary demands beyond reach, the Italian Football Federation ultimately turned to Pirlo to steer the national squad.
