Nottingham, Sep 20 (V7N)- Coventry City ended a 25-year wait for a Premier League victory with a 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Saturday, giving Frank Lampard his first league victory as the club's manager.
Jay Dasilva scored the decisive goal in the 55th minute after controlling a long pass from goalkeeper Carl Rushworth before advancing into the box and beating Matz Sels with a composed finish.
The victory ended a difficult start to Coventry's return to the top flight. After four consecutive defeats without scoring, including heavy losses to Arsenal, Manchester City and Brighton, the newly promoted side finally collected its first points of the season.
Coventry's last Premier League victory had come against Sunderland in April 2001. The club was relegated later that season and subsequently spent years outside the top flight, including a period in the fourth tier of English football.
Forest pushed for an equalizer late in the match and appeared to have drawn level through Igor Jesus. However, referee Jarred Gillett reviewed the incident after a VAR intervention and ruled that Jesus had fouled Caleb Yirenkyi in the buildup. The goal was subsequently disallowed.
Coventry had to withstand further pressure before securing the three points. Bobby Thomas also made an important late clearance to prevent Jesus from scoring.
The result provided a major boost for Lampard's side after their difficult opening four matches. Lampard praised his players' work rate and organization while acknowledging the challenge of adapting to the Premier League.
The win also marked Coventry's first Premier League goal of the season, with Dasilva's strike ending their scoring drought and lifting them off the bottom of the table.
