Lisbon, Sep 25 (V7N)- Portugal began their UEFA Nations League campaign with a 1-0 victory over Wales on Thursday, with João Félix scoring the decisive goal.
The match at the Estádio da Luz featured attacking play from both sides, with Wales creating several opportunities but failing to convert them.
Portugal also had chances to extend their lead, with Cristiano Ronaldo missing several opportunities during the match.
Portugal broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute when Félix received the ball from Nuno Mendes before firing a low shot into the net.
Ronaldo continued to threaten the Welsh defense after the break but was unable to add to Portugal’s advantage.
Wales pushed forward in search of an equalizer, but Portugal’s defense held firm to preserve the clean sheet and secure all three points.
The victory marked a winning start for Jorge Jesus in his first competitive match in charge of Portugal, while players including Neves and Mendes also began their new era under the coach with a hard-fought victory.
Portugal will now look to build on the result in their upcoming Nations League fixtures.
