Moscow, Jan 29 (V7N) — A breakthrough in cancer treatment is on the horizon as Russian researchers have announced that a vaccine to combat cancer could hit the market as early as September this year.
According to Russia’s TASS news agency, the vaccine is the result of extensive research by the Gamaleya Research Institute, the same institution behind the Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine.
Alexander Gintsburg, director of the institute, revealed in an interview with Novosti that they have already applied for approval from the Russian Ministry of Health. “We have received indications that approval may be granted by the end of August. If the ministry gives the green light, we will be able to start using the vaccine in September,” he stated.
The vaccine is designed for individuals already diagnosed with cancer. Once administered, it works by training the immune system to specifically recognize and destroy harmful cancer cells.
Gintsburg also hinted at further developments in cancer treatment, stating that several other cancer drugs and vaccines are in progress, with multiple Russian public and private research institutions focusing on related innovations.
If approved, this vaccine could mark a major milestone in the fight against cancer, offering new hope to patients worldwide.
