Pabna, Feb 21 (V7N) – Many doctors in Pabna have been offering zakat to support the medical treatment of the poor and needy. Through this initiative, they have been playing a vital role in healthcare for underprivileged people. Since the launch of the Zakat for Healthcare Project last year, more individuals are expected to benefit from zakat assistance this year.
On Thursday (Feb 20), at a special discussion session titled "Eradicating Poverty through Zakat" held at the conference room of Pabna General Hospital, doctors shared their vision for expanding the project.
The meeting, chaired by Professor Dr. Mohammad Omar Ali, President of the Zakat for Healthcare Project in Pabna, was attended by notable figures, including former principal of Pabna College, Alhaj Mohammad Mahatab Uddin Biswas.
Other speakers included Dr. Iftekhar Mahmud (Vice President of the Zakat for Healthcare Project, Pabna), Dr. Rafiqul Hasan (Assistant Director, Pabna General Hospital), Maulana Abdus Sobhan (Assistant Professor, Pabna Alia Madrasa), Dr. Saleh Muhammad Ali, Dr. Ainul Haque, Dr. Shahriar Kabir, Dr. Nargis Sultana. The welcome address was delivered by Dr. MA Sattar, General Secretary of the Zakat for Healthcare Project.
The session was conducted by Residential Medical Officer (RMO) Dr. Zahidul Islam, and was attended by doctors and staff from various departments of the hospital. The meeting ended with a prayer for the success of the project.
Dr. MA Sattar, General Secretary of the project, mentioned, "Since the launch of the project last year, we were able to collect Tk 2, lakh 30, thousands in zakat funds in 2024. This enabled us to provide surgery and medical assistance to 24 extremely poor people. If more doctors contribute zakat, it will greatly benefit the country and its people."
Professor Dr. Mohammad Omar Ali, President of the Zakat for Healthcare Project, said, "Many poor people in our society cannot afford medical treatment. Our initiative of collecting zakat to create a fund helps provide healthcare to the underprivileged. I call on all doctors to contribute to this cause."
Former Principal of Pabna College, Alhaj Mohammad Mahatab Uddin Biswas, praised the initiative, saying, "This is a praiseworthy effort. It will be of great help to those who cannot access medical treatment due to financial constraints. I will also contribute to the cause with zakat funds."
