Gaza, Apr 20 (V7N)- Fatima Hasuna, a 25-year-old photojournalist from Gaza, tragically lost her life along with 10 members of her family in an Israeli airstrike on her home in northern Gaza. The attack also claimed the life of her pregnant sister just days before Fatima’s wedding.
Fatima, who had been documenting the war in Gaza for the past 18 months, had long been aware of the dangers she faced. In her final social media post, she expressed a poignant wish: "If I die, my only wish is that my death be noisy. I don’t want to be just a headline or a number. I want a death that the world will hear; an impact that will last with time; a picture that will not be covered by time or space."
The airstrike was reportedly aimed at a Hamas member allegedly involved in attacks on Israeli soldiers and civilians. The tragedy occurred just one day after the announcement that a documentary about Fatima's life in Gaza would be screened at the Cannes Film Festival.
The documentary, titled “Put Your Soul on Your Hand and Walk,” by Iranian director Sepideh Farsi, captures Fatima's experiences through video conversations, chronicling the suffering and resilience of Palestinians in Gaza. Farsi referred to Fatima as her "only eyes in Gaza," describing her as a "bright light" that brought the struggles of the region to the world.
Fatima's death highlights the increasingly dangerous situation for journalists in Gaza, with more than 100 journalists reported killed in Israeli attacks on the region.
Her passing is a heartbreaking reminder of the human toll of the ongoing conflict.
