Jerusalem, Dec 05 (V7N) – Major General Roman Goffman has been appointed as the next head of Israel’s intelligence agency Mossad, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced in an official statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office on Thursday.
Goffman will replace the current Mossad chief David Barnia when his term ends in June next year. The newly appointed chief previously served as Netanyahu’s military secretary, holding a key advisory role within the Israeli government.
With a long and distinguished military career, Goffman has served in several high-profile positions within the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). His roles include serving as a fighter and commander in the Armored Corps, battalion commander of the 75th Battalion and 7th Brigade, officer in the ‘Ga'ash’ Formation (36th Division), and commander of the ‘Habashen’ Division (210).
Mossad is widely regarded as one of the most powerful and influential intelligence organizations in the world. Globally, it is ranked second only to the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in terms of capability and influence.
Goffman’s appointment is expected to bring significant strategic continuity as Israel continues to navigate complex regional and global security challenges.
