Mumbai, Sep 25 (V7N)-  Maharashtra is facing widespread unrest following controversial comments made by a Hindu preacher about Islam and subsequent support from a state BJP MLA. The Indian media outlet Hindustan Times reported that the remarks have sparked anger among the state's Muslim population, leading to mass protests.

The incident began earlier this month when Ramgiri Maharaj, a religious preacher, made derogatory remarks about the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and Islam during a religious gathering. Nitesh Rana, a BJP MLA, later supported these comments, further inflaming tensions by threatening to enter mosques and attack Muslims.

In response, thousands of Muslims took to the streets, marching towards Mumbai in protest. Maharashtra's expressways were filled with demonstrators, showing the scale of discontent. The protests have led to several legal cases being filed, citing religious insult and disturbances to state peace.

This incident has heightened communal tensions in the region, as authorities face growing pressure to address the situation and restore peace.
