The anticipation surrounding India's Lok Sabha elections is set to culminate today as the Election Commission of the country is poised to unveil the polling schedule at 3 pm local time. NDTV, a leading Indian news outlet, reported this development.
Alongside the Lok Sabha elections, the Election Commission will also announce the dates for assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh, and Sikkim. Speculation suggests that the national elections will likely commence in the third week of April, potentially spanning 6 or 7 phases over the course of more than a month.
The Election Commission has revealed plans to facilitate voting across more than 12 lakh polling centers, with approximately 97 crore registered voters expected to cast their ballots. Results are anticipated to be announced by the end of May.
Upon the announcement of the election schedule, stringent election rules will come into effect, prohibiting the government from making any new proposals or developmental promises during the electoral period. The upcoming Lok Sabha elections follow a similar format to the 2019 elections, which were conducted in seven phases.
