Greece, Oct 8 (V7N) – Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg has sharply criticized the international community for failing to protect the people of Palestine amid Israel’s ongoing military operations in Gaza. Speaking to reporters in Greece on Monday after being released from Israeli detention, Thunberg said that global governments have betrayed Palestinians by failing to prevent war crimes and other humanitarian violations.

Thunberg noted that while Israel continues its military assault, including alleged acts of genocide and large-scale destruction in Gaza, governments worldwide have largely remained passive. “Our world system is betraying the people of Palestine,” she said, adding that governments are not fulfilling their legal obligations to intervene or halt the violence.

Highlighting the failure of traditional diplomatic channels, Thunberg explained that she and other activists took independent action through the Global Sumud Flotilla, aiming to draw international attention and deliver aid directly to Gaza. The flotilla initiative seeks to support civilians trapped in the conflict zone and pressure governments to act in line with international law.

According to Reuters, Thunberg stressed the urgency of global intervention to stop civilian casualties and rebuild infrastructure destroyed by the ongoing conflict. She also called on citizens worldwide to hold their governments accountable and ensure that humanitarian obligations are met.

Thunberg’s statements come amid heightened tensions in Gaza, where Israeli military operations have resulted in significant casualties, displacement, and widespread infrastructure damage. International organizations have repeatedly urged restraint and adherence to international humanitarian law, but efforts to broker ceasefires and peace agreements have so far achieved limited success.

The activist’s remarks reinforce the growing global concern over civilian suffering in Gaza and emphasize the need for immediate international action to prevent further loss of life and ensure humanitarian support reaches affected populations.
