On Thursday afternoon in Sonargaon upazila of Narayanganj, a union-level leader of the Jubo League (JL), the youth wing of the Awami League (AL), was beaten to death over a non-trivial issue, according to police.
The dead Nazul Islam Bhuiyan (40) was the son of the late Shafed Ali Bhuiyan and the assistant secretary of the Noagaon union unit of the JL under the upazila.

According to Asma Aktar, the victim's wife, Nazrul left the Majerchar Bus Stand in the Sonargaon upazila in the afternoon and boarded an autorickshaw to travel to the Bhulta Gauchia market in Rupganj.
Her husband got off the autorickshaw after waiting for a long time because the driver, Jakir Hossain, would not leave the stand without loading it with passengers, an argument broke up between him and lineman Daiyan Miah, she said.
During one part of the argument, the wife said that driver Jakir, together with other drivers, punched and kicked Nazurl, seriously injuring him, while the lineman beat him up with his stick.
According to Mujibur Rahman, the sub-inspector of the Taltala police outpost under the Sonargaon police station, he was taken to the Araihazar Upazila Health Complex and upon arrival, doctors pronounced him dead. He said that the death was caused by a non-urgent problem.
He said that the incident took place between the Sonargaona and Araihazar police stations.
Officer-in-Charge Ahsan Ullah of the Araihazar Police Station reported that they were notified that the corpse was found within the Upazila Health Complex.
The police said that there were signs of trauma on the body.
