Cox’s Bazar, Jan 10, (V7N) - Recalling the 36-day July Movement, Mustafa Sarwar Farooki, Advisor to the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, said, “The way the people stood with the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) at the border is the true reflection of our culture and heritage. From tackling floods to protecting temples and assisting students in managing traffic on the streets, these actions define our collective culture. Regardless of political affiliations, we must preserve this unity.”
He made these remarks as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of the Cox’s Bazar District Book Fair on Friday (January 10) at 5 PM at the Baharchhara Bir Muktijoddha (Gol Chattar) Field.
Farooki added, “We have initiated a transformation in the country, which has also shifted people’s expectations. Those elected in the future must continue this momentum.”
With the slogan “Let’s Change the Nation, Let’s Change the World,” the nine-day-long Cox’s Bazar District Book Fair began on a grand scale. The event will run until January 18.
On the very first day, the book fair attracted readers of all ages, from teenagers to elderly citizens. Students from various educational institutions were also present, immersing themselves in reading storybooks and rhymes at the stalls.
Rafia, a ninth-grader from Cox’s Bazar Government Girls’ High School, shared her excitement: “This is my first time at a book fair. It feels amazing. I usually read books at home when I’m feeling low, but being here, reading books and enjoying the lively atmosphere, is truly delightful.”
At the Panjeri stall, a significant crowd was observed. Rahul Das, in charge of the stall, said, “For a district-level book fair, the response has been excellent from the start. Particularly, educational institutions are placing bulk orders for books. We are optimistic about continued success throughout the event.”
The book fair, organized by the National Book Centre under the patronage of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, features 59 stalls from various publishers.
The inaugural ceremony was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Salahuddin. Among others who addressed the audience were Additional Superintendent of Police Shakil Ahmed, Director of the National Book Centre Afsana Begum, President of Cox’s Bazar Press Club Mahbubur Rahman, and District Jamaat Ameer Nur Ahmed Anwari.
In his speech, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized, “The beauty of a book fair lies in the opportunity it provides for free thought and intellectual exploration.”
