Mongla, Jan 10 (V7N) - The Forest Department seized 30 kg of deer meat during a raid in the Ghagramari area of the Sundarbans. Acting on a tip-off, officials from the Eastern Sundarbans Division’s Chandpai Range conducted the operation on Wednesday afternoon. Upon surrounding 8–10 suspected poachers, the culprits abandoned the deer meat and escaped into the forest.
While returning with the seized meat, forest officials were ambushed by the fleeing poachers. To disperse them, the department fired blank rounds, causing the attackers to retreat.
Dhangmari Station Officer Surjit Chowdhury confirmed that three poachers—Shahidul Islam, Rakib Howlader, and Shafiq Howlader—from nearby villages have been identified. Preparations are underway to file a case against them under the Forest Act in the Khulna court.
