Amidst fighting in Myanmar's Rakhine state between the armed rebel organization Arakan Army and the Myanmar military, thirty-seven additional personnel of the Border Guard Police (BGP), also known as Nasaka, have sought refuge along the Bangladeshi border.

As a result, as of Monday morning, February 5, 95 Nasaka members have sought refuge in Bangladesh, according to Shariful Islam, the public relations officer at the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Headquarters.

He said that a procedure was in place to take action in this regard. The BGB disarmed the Nasaka members and transported them to a secure location.

The BGB officer said that earlier on Sunday, fifty-eight BGP members sought refuge along the border.

In the Tumbru region near the Ghumdhum border in Naikhongchhari upazila of Bandarban on Sunday morning, the Myanmar army and armed groups exchanged gunfire, according to Voice7 News Cox's Bazar Correspondent Faridul Alam. Two Bangladeshis were injured by bullets.

Residents said that throughout the last few days, there has been a bloody battle within Myanmar between the armed groups and the nation's army.

Ghumdhum's border area has seen the use of explosives and powerful weaponry, which has made the locals nervous.
