Dhaka, Feb 03 (V7N)— The Election Commission (EC) has officially registered the Bangladesh Development Party (BDP) as a new political party. The party's chairman, Anwarul Islam Chan, and general secretary received the registration certificate from EC Secretary Akhtar Ahmed at the Election Building in Agargaon on Monday morning.

Speaking to reporters after receiving the registration, Chairman Anwarul Islam Chan stated that the party seeks to move the country forward by integrating the spirit of the 1971 Liberation War with the vision of a modern Bangladesh in 2024. He emphasized the need for both political reforms and elections, asserting that fundamental reforms should be implemented by an elected government.

The Bangladesh Development Party is preparing to contest all 300 parliamentary seats in the next general elections. However, Chan mentioned that the party remains open to forming alliances with other political parties if necessary. He also expressed a desire for elections to be held within the next one to one and a half years.

With this latest registration, the total number of political parties registered with the Election Commission now stands at 49.
