Dhaka, Mar 03 (V7N) – BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has emphasized that establishing a second republic, as demanded by student protesters, can only be achieved through democratic elections and public support.
Speaking after paying homage to former President Ziaur Rahman at the Nationalist Tax Lawyers Forum on Monday (February 3), Khosru stated that any structural political change must be realized through parliamentary representation.
“If the government has the goodwill, elections can be held not in December, but as early as June this year,” he said, urging authorities to expedite the process. He further warned that delaying elections would only worsen the country’s situation.
Regarding the emergence of a new political party, Khosru described it as a natural part of democratic politics. However, he stressed that any new party seeking to implement its vision must gain public support and enter parliament through elections to bring about real change.
His comments come amid ongoing political debates over electoral reforms and demands for a transition to a new political framework in Bangladesh.
