DHAKA, May 25, (V7N) — A fire broke out this evening at the Kalshi slum in the capital, prompting a major response from the Fire Service and Civil Defence.
Anwarul Islam Dolon, an official of the Fire Service, said the first report of the blaze was received at 7:23 pm. Two units were initially dispatched to the scene and began firefighting operations. As the situation escalated, additional reinforcements were sent, bringing the total to 13 units now engaged in efforts to control the flames.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of the fire, nor the extent of damage or any casualties. Firefighters are continuing their operations to bring the situation under control.
The Kalshi slum, one of Dhaka’s densely populated settlements, has witnessed several fire incidents in the past, often linked to unsafe housing conditions and congested living arrangements.
Residents in the area have reportedly been evacuated as emergency teams work to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading further.
Officials said updates on casualties, property loss, and the origin of the fire will be provided once the situation stabilizes.
The incident underscores the vulnerability of Dhaka’s slum communities, where fires can spread rapidly due to tightly packed structures and limited access for emergency vehicles.
Emergency services have urged citizens to stay away from the affected area to allow fire crews to operate efficiently.
Further information is expected once the fire is fully under control and assessments are completed.
