Dhaka, Oct 16 (V7N) – The Ambassador of Bhutan to Bangladesh, Rinchen Kuensil, paid a courtesy call on Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus at the Rashtriya Guest House Yamuna on Hare Road. The meeting focused on enhancing bilateral relations, trade, and economic cooperation between the two nations.

Key topics of discussion included the establishment of a special economic zone for Bhutan in Bangladesh, collaboration on renewable energy, and areas of mutual interest such as the influence of Bengal on Buddhism in the Himalayan regions of Bhutan. Both parties stressed the importance of strengthening the already friendly ties between their countries.

The Chief Adviser, Muhammad Yunus, highlighted the need for further trade and economic cooperation, expressing the desire to see the relationship between the two nations grow stronger. Ambassador Kuensil, in turn, praised the preferential trade agreement (PTA) signed in 2020, noting that Bhutan enjoys a trade surplus with Bangladesh, its only partner to do so. He called for the inclusion of more products under the PTA to boost bilateral trade.

Also present during the meeting were Chief Coordinator and Senior Secretary of SDG Affairs Lamia Morshed, and Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ishrat Jahan.
