Dhaka, Jan 03 (V7N)— An earthquake measuring 5 on the Richter scale was felt across various parts of Bangladesh, including the capital Dhaka and the northeastern city of Sylhet, on Friday morning.

The US Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the epicenter of the earthquake was in Myanmar, approximately 128 kilometers from the town of Fakh in the southeastern Indian state of Nagaland. The tremors were also detected 482 kilometers away from Dhaka, according to Rubayet Kabir, the officer-in-charge of the Earthquake Observation and Research Center at the Meteorological Department.

The earthquake, which occurred early in the morning, caused noticeable shaking in Dhaka, Sylhet, and nearby areas. Fortunately, no immediate reports of damage or casualties have been received. Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation.

Residents across the affected areas expressed concern but remained calm. Experts have urged the public to stay vigilant and follow safety protocols in case of aftershocks.
