Dhaka, Jan 14 (V7N)- Retired Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Home Affairs Advisor, announced that uneven border agreements with India will be a key topic at the upcoming Director General (DG)-level meeting between the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and India's Border Security Force (BSF).
The advisor shared this information during a view-exchange meeting held at the Shaheed Shahabuddin Auditorium of Mymensingh City Corporation on Tuesday, January 14. Officials from various ministries, including law enforcement, the fire service, immigration, and the narcotics control department, were present at the meeting.
Border Discussions and Current Situation
Lieutenant General Chowdhury remarked,
"The border situation is currently stable. The construction of barbed wire fences has been halted, and these matters, along with the uneven agreements, will be discussed at next month's DG-level meeting."
The advisor's comments highlight Bangladesh's intention to address longstanding issues with its neighboring country, emphasizing the need for fair agreements that respect the interests of both nations.
Significance of the Meeting
The BGB-BSF DG-level meetings provide a platform to address bilateral concerns, including:
- Border management and security.
- Cross-border crime prevention.
- Resolving disputes related to border fencing and territorial claims.
The inclusion of "uneven agreements" in the agenda indicates a proactive approach by Bangladesh to renegotiate terms that may have been disadvantageous or require updates in light of current geopolitical realities.
Moving Forward
This upcoming meeting is seen as a step toward fostering transparency and collaboration between the two countries while addressing issues that impact the lives of people in the border regions.
