Dhaka, Jan 28, (V7N) - Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended his warm wishes to Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Advisor of Bangladesh's Interim Government, on the occasion of the New Year 2025.

In a letter addressed to Dr. Yunus, Prime Minister Modi expressed his greetings, saying, "Best wishes for the new year." This information was shared by the Deputy Press Secretary of the Chief Advisor, Abul Kalam Azad Majumdar, on January 27, 2025.

Majumdar confirmed that the Indian Prime Minister had sent the message of goodwill to Dr. Yunus recently, as part of the ongoing diplomatic communication between the two countries. The gesture of sending New Year greetings reflects the continued diplomatic ties between India and Bangladesh.

This comes after a period of political upheaval in Bangladesh. On August 5, 2024, during the student-led "Long March to Dhaka" movement, which was organized to protest against discrimination, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned from her post and moved to India. The resignation marked a turning point in the political situation in Bangladesh. Following the resignation, the 12th National Parliament of Bangladesh was dissolved.

In response to the unrest and the collapse of the government, a new leadership structure was formed. On August 8, 2024, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, a renowned economist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, was appointed as the Chief Advisor of the newly-formed Interim Government. His leadership marked the beginning of a transitional phase aimed at stabilizing the country.

Dr. Yunus took the oath of office as the Chief Advisor at a formal ceremony held at the Darbar Hall of Bangabhaban on August 8, 2024. The ceremony was attended by key political figures, with President Mohammad Shahabuddin administering the oath.

The formation of the Interim Government under Dr. Yunus was seen as a significant development in Bangladesh’s political landscape, with hopes for restoring stability and guiding the country through a transitional period. Dr. Yunus, known for his work in social business and microfinance, is regarded as a symbol of international recognition and leadership.
