Dhaka, Feb 06 (V7N) — Bangladesh has repeatedly requested India to prevent former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from making public statements, Foreign Affairs Advisor Towhid Hossain said on Thursday. Speaking at a press briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he stated that Dhaka is closely monitoring Delhi’s response in this regard.

“The students and the public are angry and vandalizing because of Sheikh Hasina’s constant statements in the country,” Hossain said. “We anticipated that the attack on Dhanmondi 32 would receive negative coverage in the international media. The government will take measures to prevent such incidents from recurring.”

In response to Sheikh Hasina’s recent remarks, the Indian acting High Commissioner in Dhaka was summoned, and a protest letter was handed over on behalf of the Bangladesh government.

Towhid Hossain also announced that Pakistan’s Foreign Minister is scheduled to visit Dhaka in April. He emphasized that Bangladesh aims to strengthen its bilateral relations with Pakistan and maximize diplomatic benefits as an independent nation.

Additionally, the advisor criticized the agreement signed with India’s Adani Group during Sheikh Hasina’s tenure, stating that it did not adequately protect Bangladesh’s national interests.

The developments signal a shift in Bangladesh’s foreign policy approach and highlight ongoing regional diplomatic tensions.
