Ukhiya, Mar 1 (V7N) – The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, visited the Rohingya camps in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar on Friday, February 28. Grandi, leading a delegation, arrived at the Balukhali Rohingya Camp in Palongkhali Union at 9 AM. Upon arrival, he inspected the activities of the UNHCR-operated registration center.
Afterward, he visited the 8 West Rohingya Camp, where he observed the camp area from the observation tower. He then proceeded to the 1 East Rohingya Camp. During his visit, Grandi engaged in discussions with Imams and Rohingya parents on community-based protection, security, and peace. He also participated in various activities at the 4 Extension and 1 West Rohingya Camps.
The UNHCR Chief was accompanied by Hai Kyun Jun, Director of the Regional Bureau for Asia and the Pacific, Mizanur Rahman, the Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner, and other officials from the United Nations and the camp administration.
After completing his visit, the delegation departed for Cox’s Bazar. In the afternoon, Grandi took part in a meeting with the Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner and the Deputy Commissioner of Cox’s Bazar. Later that evening, Grandi was scheduled to return to Dhaka via air travel.
Earlier, on Thursday night, February 27, Grandi met with the Chief Advisor, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, at the state guesthouse, Jamuna, in the capital.
