Dhaka, Mar 10 (V7N) – The distribution of textbooks for the current academic year has faced some delays, but the process is nearing completion, according to Abul Kalam Azad Majumdar, Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Advisor.
Speaking at a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka on Monday, Majumdar stated that out of the 396 million textbooks planned for distribution, 382.961 million have been printed—97.2% of the total. Most of these have already been distributed.
- 23.2 million printed books are currently in the distribution process.
- 18.5 million books are yet to be printed, but the government expects them to be completed and distributed within a week.
- The government is confident that all books will be printed and distributed by mid-March.
The unprinted books primarily include subjects like Physical Education, Bibliography, and Career Counseling. However, according to the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB), 45,000 books are being printed daily, ensuring quick completion.
Majumdar acknowledged that the original target was to complete the distribution by February 28, but several factors contributed to the delay:
- Late release of imported paper affected the printing timeline.
- Chinese New Year disruptions impacted supply chains.
- Revised target set for March 10, with significant progress made.
To prevent future delays, the newly appointed advisor CR Abrar has directed that printing for next year’s textbooks will begin immediately. This proactive step aims to ensure that students receive their textbooks on time next year.
Despite initial setbacks, the interim government remains optimistic about completing the current year’s textbook distribution by mid-March, ensuring minimal disruption to students' education.
