Dhaka, Mar 19 (V7N) - A 40-year lease renewal agreement has been signed between the Bangladesh Forest Industries Development Corporation (BFIDC) and the Forest Department.
BFIDC leases the land from the Forest Department for the cultivation of natural rubber.
The agreement was signed by Chief Conservator of Forests Md Amir Hossain Chowdhury and BFIDC Chairman Md Nasir Uddin Ahmed on behalf of their respective organizations at the Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Ministry's conference room at the Secretariat on Tuesday.
Over the years, the Forest Department has officially transferred 38,184.48 acres of land for 18 rubber plantations to BFIDC.
Syeda Rizwana Hasan, adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, attended the event as the chief guest.
Speaking at the event, Rizwana highlighted that the lease renewal was initiated by the ministry since the previous agreement had expired in 2003.
She emphasized that this renewal would not only boost government revenue but also resolve legal complexities related to land encroachment, contributing significantly to maintaining the climate balance through natural rubber cultivation.
