Dhaka, Mar 25 (V7N) – Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor to the interim government, has conferred the ‘Independence Award-2025’ on seven eminent personalities for their outstanding contributions to the nation. The prestigious Independence Award, Bangladesh’s highest national civilian honor, was presented at a grand ceremony held at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka on Tuesday morning.

This year’s Independence Award recognizes contributions in various fields, including science, literature, culture, social service, and national service. Among the honorees, Professor Jamal Nazrul Islam was awarded posthumously in the field of science and technology, while Mir Abdus Shukur Al Mahmud received the award posthumously for his contributions to literature. The late Novera Ahmed was recognized for her impact on culture, and Sir Fazle Hasan Abed was posthumously honored for his extensive work in social service.

In the category of Liberation War and Culture, the award was given posthumously to Mohammad Mahbubul Haque Khan, also known as Azam Khan, for his revolutionary role in shaping Bangladesh’s music and cultural identity. Badruddin Mohammad Umar was recognized for his lifelong contributions to education and research, while Abrar Fahad received the award posthumously in the Protest Youth category, commemorating his sacrifice for justice.

The award ceremony was moderated by Cabinet Secretary Dr. Sheikh Abdur Rashid, who read out the official citations for each honoree. The event was attended by government officials, dignitaries, and family members of the recipients.

Earlier, on March 11, the Cabinet Division had issued an official notification announcing the recipients of this year’s Independence Award. This prestigious honor is awarded annually to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the nation in various fields.
