Dhaka, Mar 27 (V7N)– The government has announced a 9-day holiday for Eid al-Fitr, starting from April 3 (Thursday), ensuring an extended break for public and private sector employees. However, authorities have assured that economic activities will continue without disruption during this period.

Speaking after a meeting of the Procurement Advisory Council, Financial Advisor Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed reassured that despite the long holiday, there will be no stagnation in the country’s economy.

"The economic activities will continue as usual. The financial sector and supply chains will function efficiently to ensure smooth transactions," he stated.

With a massive movement of people expected during the holiday period, Home Secretary Nasimul Gani emphasized that law enforcement agencies will be on high alert to ensure public safety across the country.

"The police force was not active for a few days after August 5, but now it is fully operational. Special measures have been taken to keep the situation normal and prevent any security threats during the holiday season," he said.

The government has taken steps to secure transport terminals, including bus, train, and launch stations, to ensure the safe movement of people traveling for Eid.

Since March 27 (Thursday) was the last working day before the holidays, government offices, including the Secretariat, witnessed low attendance. Many employees took an additional leave on Thursday to extend their break even further. By noon, most offices were nearly empty.

With the long holiday starting, people have already begun leaving the capital for their hometowns. Authorities have urged travelers to follow safety guidelines and have assured smooth transportation services during this period.
