Bangkok, Mar 28 (V7N) – On the sidelines of the 6th BIMSTEC Summit, scheduled to take place in Bangkok, Thailand, Principal Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus will not be holding a bilateral meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as confirmed by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Friday (March 28).
According to the official statement, during his visit, Prime Minister Modi will have only one bilateral meeting—with Thai Prime Minister Phatthana Shinawatra on April 3—to discuss and review bilateral ties between India and Thailand.
Although the statement does not mention whether there will be an informal courtesy meeting between Dr. Yunus and Modi, it is expected that they may exchange greetings since they will be attending the same summit.
Since Dr. Yunus took office nearly eight months ago, he and Prime Minister Modi have not had a direct meeting. However, after Yunus assumed office, the Indian Prime Minister extended his congratulations and sent his best wishes.
The BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) Summit will take place in Bangkok from April 2-4, marking the first such summit in Thailand in 21 years. Top leaders from the member countries—Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Nepal, and Bhutan—will gather to discuss regional cooperation and economic integration.
