Comilla, Apr 02 (V7N) – In response to a recent New York Times report suggesting a potential rise of extremism in Bangladesh, Information and Broadcasting Advisor Mahfuz Alam has reassured that the government will not allow such forces to gain ground.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, after visiting the grave of martyr Masum Miah in Uttar Rampur village, Sadar Dakshin Upazila, the Information Advisor emphasized the government's commitment to curbing political and religious extremism.
Mahfuz Alam stated that the government remains vigilant against any form of extremism. He stressed that democracy must progress through elections, and if any group tries to destabilize the country, the authorities will take firm action. He made it clear that no opportunity would be given to those attempting to disrupt national peace.
He further emphasized the importance of upholding the sacrifices of those who gave their lives for the nation. According to him, the current government is working to build a Bangladesh that reflects the aspirations of the martyrs. He called on all political parties to work with the same spirit to ensure a prosperous future for the country.
Regarding media reform, Mahfuz Alam mentioned that qualitative improvements in journalism are necessary for a better future. He highlighted that the Media Reform Commission is reviewing necessary changes to enhance journalism practices across the country. He assured that as long as the current administration is in place, they will push for fair and responsible media operations.
Several high-ranking officials and political leaders were present during his visit, including Police Superintendent Mohammad Nazir Ahmed Khan, Bangladesh Nagorik Party Central Joint Member Secretary Joynal Abedin Shishir, Sadar Dakshin Upazila Executive Officer Rubaiya Khanam, Anti-Discrimination Movement Comilla Metropolitan Convener Abu Raihan, and Member Secretary Rashedul Hasan.
Mahfuz Alam's remarks come at a crucial time, as Bangladesh seeks to maintain stability and democratic progress amid global concerns. The government remains firm in its stance that no extremist elements will be allowed to take advantage of the country's political landscape.
