Dhaka, April 3 (V7N) – Home Affairs Advisor Retired Lieutenant General Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has emphasized the need to eliminate extortion and arms dealing in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, identifying these as the primary problems plaguing the region. Speaking to the press on Thursday (April 3), he stated that strict instructions have been issued to law enforcement agencies and the administration to combat these issues in the area.
During his visit to Baghaihat and Sajek in Rangamati via helicopter, the Home Affairs Advisor highlighted that numerous weapons had been looted from police stations in the plains after August 5, and he stressed the importance of recovering these firearms. “If these weapons are recovered, many problems will be solved,” he said, underlining the urgency of restoring peace and order in the region.
Chowdhury also called for a collective effort to ensure the effective and rightful development of the Chittagong Hill Tracts. He urged all stakeholders to work together to achieve sustainable growth and address the region's ongoing challenges.
During his visit, the Advisor inspected various Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) installations and engaged with the soldiers, showing support for their work in maintaining security in the area. Additionally, he instructed the Director General of the Fire Service to temporarily deploy a fire service vehicle in Sajek, responding to the region's emergency needs.
The Advisor’s visit signifies the government's commitment to addressing security concerns in the Chittagong Hill Tracts and ensuring that development initiatives are implemented effectively for the betterment of local communities.
