Dhaka, Apr 15 (V7N) – Home Affairs Advisor Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said that no influential figures (“Raghav-Boals”) accused in the July Movement cases are being spared. Law enforcement is simply waiting for the right time to bring them under the law, he stated.
The advisor made these remarks during a press briefing following a meeting of the Core Committee on Law and Order at the Secretariat on Tuesday morning (April 15).
Clarifying a recent statement that sparked criticism, Chowdhury said, “The comment that people want this government to stay for five years is not mine. That is what ordinary people are saying. As for the election, the Chief Advisor has already made it clear that it will be held between December and June. There is nothing more to add.”
Addressing the recent transfer of Additional Police Commissioner Rezaul Karim Mallick from the position of Detective Branch (DB) chief of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), he said the decision had no connection with the Model Meghna Alam issue. “This is a routine reshuffle. People come to power and move on. It’s a normal process,” he said.
On the change in police uniform and logo, he added that the updates would be implemented in phases.
Chowdhury also praised the peaceful observance of Chaitra Sankranti and Pohela Boishakh, noting the inclusive participation of people from all religions, castes, and communities. “With everyone’s cooperation, the law enforcement agencies were able to carry out their duties effectively. I thank the law enforcers, media professionals, and the general public,” he said.
