Doha, Apr 22 (V7N) — Chief Advisor of Bangladesh's interim government, Professor Muhammad Yunus, has called on world leaders to keep the Palestine and Rohingya crises at the forefront of the global humanitarian agenda.

Delivering the keynote address at the Arthana Conference in Doha, Qatar, on Tuesday, Professor Yunus emphasized that humanitarian crises, such as those in Palestine and Bangladesh’s Rohingya camps, cannot be sidelined if the world truly seeks peace and sustainable development.

“Impunity and blatant disregard for human rights are threats to development anywhere in the world,” Yunus said. “The suffering in Palestine is not just a regional issue—it’s a matter of global human concern.”

The 2006 Nobel Peace Prize laureate also underscored the enduring Rohingya refugee crisis, warning that it now poses a serious regional stability threat. With over 1.2 million Rohingya refugees sheltered in Bangladesh for years, the toll on the country's society, economy, and environment has been significant, he noted.

Professor Yunus also referenced the recent visit of the UN Secretary-General to the refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar, calling it a powerful gesture of solidarity. However, he stressed that “global efforts must be accelerated” to ensure a safe, sustainable, and dignified repatriation of the Rohingya people to Myanmar.

His message was clear: true global leadership demands action and unity on the most pressing humanitarian issues of our time.
