Dhaka, May 07 (V7N) – In light of the escalating conflict between India and Pakistan, Bangladesh has instructed all Superintendents of Police (SPs) in border areas to remain on high alert to ensure national security and prevent any infiltration by criminals or militants.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam disclosed the directive on Wednesday afternoon during the closing and award ceremony of the Bangladesh Police Annual Shooting Competition 2024 held in Gulshan, Dhaka.
The IGP emphasized that police forces across the country—particularly in border districts—have been asked to maintain maximum vigilance and coordination with other law enforcement agencies to prevent any spillover effects from the regional tensions.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh has issued a formal statement expressing deep concern over the unfolding situation between its two neighboring countries. The statement urged both India and Pakistan to maintain calm and exercise restraint, emphasizing the importance of peace and regional stability.
Tensions soared after India launched missile strikes on multiple targets in Pakistan in an operation codenamed 'Operation Sindoor' at midnight on Tuesday. Indian media claim the strikes targeted terrorist camps, while Pakistan alleges that civilian areas were hit, with at least 26 people reportedly killed.
In response, Pakistan’s military stated that it had shot down five Indian warplanes and a combat drone, vowing to continue its counter-offensive if further aggression occurs.
