Dhaka, May 07 (V7N) – Bangladesh has expressed deep concern over the escalating military tensions between India and Pakistan, calling on both nuclear-armed neighbors to exercise maximum restraint and avoid further provocation.

In an official statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday, the Bangladesh government emphasized that it is closely monitoring the developing situation and urged both sides to refrain from actions that could further escalate the crisis.

“Bangladesh firmly believes in regional peace, harmony, and stability,” the statement read. “We hope that the current tensions will be defused through diplomatic efforts, and peace will ultimately be restored for the benefit of the people in the region.”

The statement comes after India launched missile strikes on several targets inside Pakistan under ‘Operation Sindoor’, which New Delhi claims was aimed at destroying terrorist bases. The midnight strike on Tuesday reportedly killed at least 26 people, including women and children, and injured 46 others.

Pakistan has strongly condemned the attacks, claiming that civilian areas were targeted. In retaliation, the Pakistan military announced that it had shot down five Indian aircraft and a combat drone. According to multiple local government sources, three of the downed fighter jets crashed in Indian-controlled Jammu and Kashmir.

The latest hostilities follow the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Indian-administered Kashmir, which killed 26 people, most of them tourists. India has blamed Pakistan for the attack, while Islamabad has denied involvement.

In the days following the Pahalgam tragedy, diplomatic exchanges intensified, with Iran and Russia offering to mediate between the two countries. However, diplomatic efforts failed to prevent the current escalation, culminating in India’s military action two weeks after the attack.
