Dhaka, June 26 (V7N) – Environment, Forest, and Climate Advisor Syeda Rizwana Hasan has expressed concern over the destruction of the environment in the name of urban development. She emphasized that while the population is increasing and housing demand is rising, environmental conservation must remain a top priority.
She made these remarks while inaugurating Dhaka North City Corporation’s (DNCC) greening program at Hararbari Chattar in Purbachal on Thursday morning (June 26).
“Urban housing is expanding rapidly, but building homes by destroying nature is not desirable at all,” said Rizwana Hasan. “We must move forward in the housing sector while ensuring the environment is protected. Wherever there is soil—even on rooftops—we should plant trees.”
She also urged residents of the capital to actively support the implementation of the ‘Zero Soil’ program. “If all exposed soil in Dhaka can be covered with trees, grass, or flowering plants, we will see a significant reduction in environmental pollution,” she added.
DNCC Administrator Mohammad Ejaz also spoke at the event. He said that the city corporation is now working in coordination with all government agencies, unlike in the past when there were frequent institutional conflicts. “We hope to meet the expectations of the people through united development efforts,” he said.
