Dhaka, July 03 (V7N) — The eighth day of the second phase of discussions between political parties and the National Consensus Commission begins today, Thursday, at 10:30 AM at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital.
According to commission sources, no new issues will be tabled in today’s meeting. The focus will remain on topics where no consensus could be reached during earlier discussions. The commission is eager to finalize reform proposals through continuous dialogue.
Earlier, Ali Riaz, vice-chairman of the Consensus Commission, reiterated that the goal is to present a finalized reform charter within July. However, he emphasized that this target depends heavily on the goodwill and cooperation of the participating political parties.
In this second phase, the Consensus Commission has been holding thematic discussions with political parties to build agreement on key national reforms. Around 20 proposals for fundamental reforms are on the agenda for this phase. So far, consensus has been achieved on only two issues, while partial consensus has been reached on a few others. Importantly, no issue has been removed from the negotiation table yet, as the commission continues efforts to bridge gaps between the parties.
The outcome of these meetings is seen as critical for shaping Bangladesh’s future political and institutional landscape.
