Dhaka, July 15 (V7N) – The interim government has declared Wednesday, July 16, as State Mourning Day in honor of the victims of the July Uprising, now officially recognized as ‘July Martyrs’ Day’.

A circular signed by Cabinet Secretary Dr. Sheikh Abdur Rashid confirmed the decision on Tuesday. According to the notification, the national flag will be flown at half-mast on all government, semi-government, autonomous institutions, educational institutions, as well as on private buildings and at all Bangladesh missions abroad.

In addition, special prayers will be held in mosques across the country seeking forgiveness for the souls of the martyrs. Other religious institutions will also organize prayer services in accordance with their faith traditions to honor those who lost their lives during the uprising.

The decision comes as part of the government's efforts to formally recognize the significance of the July Movement, which has been credited with reigniting the nationwide push for democratic reform and accountability.

This is the first official observance of July Martyrs’ Day at the state level since the interim government took over.
